Federico Maddalozzo

His practice is based on the observation and analysis of marginal aspects of urban space and involves rigorous research in painting and sculpture. Particular areas of interest include urban surfaces, the structures that organise public space, and the discarded varnish that accumulates during certain working processes.

Lives and works in Berlin, Germany. His work is closely related to a continuous experiential study of territories, to the discovery of landscapes, shapes and cultural events that can shed light on their social contexts. In considering these contexts he derives a language of minimal signs and forms based on the process of reproducing physical structures and traces of colour. Varnish and its remnants become central elements in the visual grammar he uses to represent the contemporary landscape.
